I have an acer aspire v3 771. The wifi switch has been greyed out for 7 years. Never been able to use it, got it brand new. The wireless is enabled, the quick guide says wifi is on, I've tried restarting it and holding the function and wireless key, I've tried factory resetting it, I've tried updating it. It will not let me update it to windows 8.1. It says it failed everytime. I have it plugged directly into my wifi router. I have no idea why my wireless adapter would say it was enabled, and the quick guide would say wifi is on when it is not. At this point I want to throw the whole thing away. I cant even use the store to download any apps because the version of windows is outdated.

Let's do one thing at a time. If you want to shut the wifi off, open DeviceManager. Then click on NetworkAdapters folder. Then right click on the wlan, wifi or wireless adapter and click on disable.

Then what is the next thing you want to do after the wifi is disabled?
