Acer Nitro AN515-52 Unable to Detect 2nd Monitor

Here's what I did:

Unplugged the monitor's power supply & HDMI/VGA cable, waited 10 minutes. Shut down my laptop, then plugged in my monitor, then turn on my laptop. 

Still having same issue.

After boot, I also tried to add legacy hardware with the .inf and still same issue.

On the old laptop, what does DeviceManager Monitor folder show with the monitor plugged in? Jack E/NJ

It shows as "Generic PnP Monitor".

Are there two monitors listed? If only one, leave DeviceManager open  and see what happens when you shut the monitor off, wait a few moments, then turn it back on. DeviceManager should react to turning it off and on if it's a real driver. It may be listed under another device folder. Jack E/NJ

Yes, its listed as 2 monitors named as Generic PnP Monitor (this is from the old laptop). New laptop only has 1 monitor showing as "Generic PnP Monitor". Tried turning on and off but nothing is happening/changes.

(1) What is your old laptop's full model number?

(2) What was the old laptop's factory Windows version?

(1) Was it Win8.1 or Win10?

(2) And just to confirm, were you using it's HDMI port with the HDMI-2-VGA adapter, NOT its VGA port directly with a straight VGA cable?

PS: You should a graphics control panel on the nitro to allow you to switch the HDMI port to either the Integrated graphics adapter or the discrete nvidia graphics. The HDMI port may be looking at one adapter and the lid screen at the other.

Please check for a graphics or port control panel in the nitro that should allow you to switch the HDMI port between the two graphics adapters. Your HDMI port may not be on the same adapter as the lid screen right now so it won't see it. Jack E/NJ

I had tried to look for it but the only option I am seeing is to use a specific video card (either Geforce/Intel) is only when using a specified "application". No other option just to set intel as default for all.

Well then, if possible will it let you try to pick a specified application that probably uses the Intel card like notepad to see what happens? Jack E/N

I tried but when I switch to Intel Graphics, it will still not detect the 2nd monitor.

Does your TV also have a VGA port? My TVs have both HDMI & VGA inputs. Jack E/NJ

Hi JackE, tried but still not able to detect the 2nd monitor. Bought a new monitor instead with HDMI port and can now work properly. Anyway, thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it.

Getting a another monitor was probably the best solution. Your HDMI output port is not the usual plain vanilla type with its advanced switchable features. I suspect your basic HDMI-2-VGA adapter just couldn't handle it. Jack E/NJ

The specs I see for the monitor shows it only supports the 1366x768 resolution, so it won't display anything at 1920x1080. Change from 'duplicate' in the Windows-P menu to 'Extend' and the display should light up at the correct resolution.

I thought we had tried this. But I now see maybe not going back thru the thread. But I think it should've still detected the monitor despite the set resolution. Detection was the main problem. Jack E/NJ

Yes, already did try that to no avail. Switching to a monitor with HDMI port was the only solution. Thanks JackE for the help.

Im having the same problem, but how do you do this, switch the HDMI port between two graphics adapter. I have the one with Vega 8 and RX560X
