I purchased Acer nitro 5 about 6-7 months ago. When i play games like gta v or some high end games my laptop shuts down on its own and takes about half an hour to recover. My temperatures are decent too lying between 70-80 degrees Celsius. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I would say make sure your drivers are up to date, especially the graphics card drivers.

That said if it takes a half hour to recover, that suggests to me that it is overheating and shutting down as a safety.

Update your Nvidia drivers and then in the Nvidia Control Center under 3d make sure Global is set to Nvidia and in programs your games are set to Nvidia

And you are gaming with your battery charged to 100% BEFORE gaming and KEPT plugged in while gaming?
From your description the temps are good but it sounds like it's shutting down because of high temps which seems like a CPU problem not the Graphics Card, kinda confusing, let me think

How is play before shutting down, does it stutter or lag?

It used to stutter a lot, later i undervolted it to -150mvm and it stopped. Temperatures to used to reach 98 degrees on full load after undervolting it has decreased to 80 but after 10-15 mins of gameplay it shut downs.

80 deg C should not make it shut off. Have you updated your drivers for your processor in Device Manager?

Maybe bump the undervolt to -0.140 or -0.130 and see if it still does it.  Could be that you hit a load where it isn't stable (although that would not explain the half hour to recover....so maybe not)

He could try that but what puzzles me is the temp is only 80 deg

The temps are why I was thinking instability due to undervolting.  Temperatures would be in that range.  I know when I went a bit too far (-0.170), it was fine until it wasn't..and when it wasn't, it simply shut down.  I bumped it back up to -0.150 and all the stress tests I did ran fine but I still ended up settling at -0.125 just to be safe.

What has me stumped is the temps seem fine but the half hour to recover.  If it's shutting down from undervolting, it should recover immediately.

Maybe a driver issue? (although, again, that should not need half an hour to recover).
