This is for my ASPIRE E5-576. Quarter top of screen is black. Rest of screen is in total disarray.

When you plug a TV into the HDMI port, does the TV screen look the same as the laptop screen? Jack E/NJ

I have the same problem with my laptop screen, and when I plugged it into the TV with HD cable, the tv screen looked like my working laptop screen, perfectly clear. Do I need to order a new screen to fix this problem?

Probably not. I think the screen is OK but not its connection to the mainboard.

You must first try to re-seat the connector ends of the video ribbon cable at the mainboard and the base of the LCD screen. This will help clean the connectors if they are dirty or slightly corroded. If reseating doesn't completely fix the problem, then it's very likely that the video ribbon cable has developed conductor  trace breaks in the hinge area from wear and tear of opening and closing the lid too much. New video cables are usually less than $20USD.

However, in either case, you must do a partial disassembly of the laptop case and screen bezel for access to the connectors and cable.

Jack, thank you so much for your thorough reply. I am trying to find a video or written walk-through on re-seating the connector ends, and then I’ll go from there.
    Again, I appreciate your help!

Joanie12 Simply google your  'model number' (eg e5-576) and 'disassembly'. Youtube videos should pop up for the e5-5xx series which are all very similar. Jack E/NJ
