function key mapping

hello, i just bought an aspire desktop with SSD drive.  Great!  except for keyboard.  the function keys that i use frequently (excel, etc.) map by default into system controls, not function keys.
so for example, F2 does not edit a cell, but puts the system to sleep.  horrible!  can I change this behavior?  I see this mentioned in support forum before, but with no solutions that will help me.

    Good evening  ymidt!

What EXACT model of your computer?
Have you checked in Bios for FunctionKeysBehavior options if present? If so, just switch from SpecialKeys to MediaKeys.
