I have an Acer Predator Helios 300.  Had a LONG day at work yesterday and fell asleep on the couch with my laptop...(on my lap...thighs).
Got this...

This is not an impossible case - there are cases where laptops even caught fire when there is no proper ventilation, like in your case of blocking the below vents completely.
Please, for heaven's sake, do NEVER keep laptop on lap (irony of lap in laptop) without a proper pad with airvent/fans on it. And never on bed
Who ever said I blocked the vents completely?  I didnt  There was no fire, and no damage to my shorts.  Not hating on ACER.....was just asking a question.  If my skinny legs can block this plus the vents on the back....I am at a loss
Well if you got those burns something was blocking the ventilation or you wouldnt had got those in first place just stating anyway also bare in mind that both fans are on the right side bottom down (left side bottom up) they only suck air from that side even without you noticing it you could block them easily hopefully this will be a lesson for everyone (unfortunately at your expenses) from now on to be careful and pay attention to the laptops vents

Tland43 exactly as @sri369 stated and very well if you want to keep it in your lap get a base/tray with proper ventilation for it youre very lucky it didnt catch fire when you blocked the vents unfortunately as far as i can see this issue was cause by the user and only the user is to blame here nothing to do with Acer or warranty i play on my bed but only one knee only supporting it in the middle only making sure the vents are not blocked never had a single issue but laptops were not made to be on your lap without a proper base for ventilation especially gaming laptops where they heat up to 99 celsius if you block them they can go even higher again youre very lucky indeed this is health and safety issue that has to be taken very serious by any laptop owner

I see what you guys are saying.  I have rather skinny legs, & Vents run all around the bottom.  I was operating in Microsoft Excel & not playing a game that would require more CPU/GPU usage (which would result in more heat).  Agreed regarding the irony that a laptop cant be in your lap....  It didnt burn my shorts, just a slow burn on my right leg in 2 places (2nd degree).  Should be plenty of ventilation room.  Is what it is  My shorts weren't in any way damaged.  Just burnt my leg up.  Definitely needs to be more awareness regarding this issue.

wow careful if you had to place the laptop on your lap next time place something like a cooling pad or even a tray of some sort to allow minimal ventilation. it is a gaming laptop after all which get hot!
Tips 1: For gaming laptop make sure before you shut down especially after a heavy gaming session to let it cool down for at least 10min before you switch it off!

aceerfan you are correct but if properly optimized/undervolted/repasted (and of course not blocking the fans airflow) its not as hot as everyone makes it seem it will behave just as any normal laptop and i dare to say also desktop because after all its not a laptop its desktop hardware in a very small chassis :)

Thank you guys for all of the responses.  I am not a newb with regards to gaming computers...built my own desktop.  Was incredibly strange to me that it had zero effect on my shorts.  Crazy weird night.  Burns are getting better. Still nasty but it is what it is.

Tland43 hope u get better soon your temps seem just fine (at least on start) i would turn on coolboost  and if you want to give the new PS a try check here but bare in mind the new PS will use from 15 to 25% cpu at all times because it has extra services running including the mobile app service to control PS via the mobile :)

These are my (sort of idle with loads of apps running on background) temps
