Of all the cheesy things I have seen on cheap lap tops... using a SD card slot where a SD card adapter cannot slide in the whole way is just about the worst.  The odd thing is that Acer should know better as their low end Chromebook 11 has a nice push-push SD slot that accepts the entire SD card adapter with nothing sticking out.

How can someone use a SD card on a laptop when 5/8 of the card is sticking out the side of the machine like on this Aspire 1 A114-32-P2M9??  That is just silly. Break it off or knock it off while putting it in your laptop bag.  SD slot hardware like that is OK on a desktop tower of power but on a laptop?  How could Acer let the Chinese manufacturing plant get away with that .. its so silly it had to be a in-plant substitution for the real part by the manufacturer just to get a shipment out the door for billing.  Acer should recall this product and make the chinese fix it.

Is there such a thing as a half length SD adapter that will take a micro-SDXC card so almost nothing sticks out?

Stay tuned. This seems to be the wave of the future for cutting down on laptop case real estate. Soon to be available for PCs. Jack E/NJ

Thanks for the news.  there is at least eighteen square inches of empty space inside the shell.  its not like there was no room.  12 square inches empty right behind the card slot.  It could have been used for an SSD but hey they saved 2 cents by not putting in a connector for that either.
