Hi everyone,

a month ago ,my computer started to freeze every now and then, I noticed that my CPU tends to spike and reach 100% while gaming or spikes to 60% while just regular browsing and opening docs. The screen freezes by 1 second then when back to normal and this happens every 30 seconds. random fps drops while gaming, I checked the CPU temperature (no problem at all), I tried doing clean install but to no avail pls help.

My specs are:

Acer Predator G9 793

intel core i7-6700HQ CPU @2.60Hz 2.60GHz

RAM 32GB

Nvidia GTX 1060

all drivers up to date.

i did, fresh window install, so every unwanted files and apps has been deleted. but when playing game such as league of legends, random fps drops always occurs. CPU spikes from 4% to 30% or 100% (when a games open jumps to 100% for a second).

Colonel_Latte how are your temps for how long do you have it also have u ever cleaned yous fans and repasted it (its recommended to clean it/repaste it with proper thermal paste like kryonaut or similar once a year on gaming laptops depending on the high usage

And its normal for the cpu/gpu usage to go to 100% depending on the game itself some games have high gpu usage some high cpu and some both

my temps are looking normal, I cleaned my fans using a vacuum to suck out any dust a week ago.  I haven't done any thermal pasting so far. I had this Laptop for more 2.5 years. But sometimes my laptop tends to get really hot during gaming period. The heat blown out makes my hand sweat and feel a bit burned. I might use your advice and do thermal pasting and see if there is any improvements.

Hi there, sorry for the late reply, I have done window reset or clean up (new window installed) and checked thermal pasting (still wet). I found out that there is a lot of dust accumulated. After cleaning it up, the CPU runs smoothly but after long use(5 hour or so) the CPU spike comes back. Does having 32gb ram has an effect on it? I don't think it's software problem. Pls help

Colonel_Latte you stated <<<<and checked thermal pasting (still wet)>>>> have you repasted ???? because once you remove the heatsink out of place you have to clean it very well the heatsink and the cpu/gpu diodes and repaste it every time you cant just put it back without repaste as you already created air bubbles by taking it out im just wondering on what you had done anyway :) and yes the more ram you have the less the cpu/gpu will have to fight for it even if you have plenty left you are sure that ram is no issue and of course it will increase the performance depending on each model of course lets just say that everyone with 8gb these days its not enough for anything the minimum its 16gb dual channel preferably

PS: i have no idea of what are your exact specs

After researching forums, I have the SAME exact issue. It seems like others have this issue also. Someone else was only playing diablo 2... No reason a current laptop shouldnt be able to play that.

Everything freezes randomly every 5-15 minutes for about 5 seconds while cpu spikes to 100%. Mouse moves, audio plays, but graphics freeze on the screen. Happens on every game, no matter graphics settings.

Reinstalled windows fresh to asus image. Only installed one game.
Sent back to acer. They reinstalled os. Only installed one game.
