My A717-72G-700j is overheating at 95c + just playing wow classic which has incredibly low settings. It starts skipping frames when it gets hot after maybe 20 min of literally just walking around. Nothing is running in the background and I have had this computer only a day. I put coolboost in quick access on which doesn't seem to do anything. Fans do run. I don't want to mess with voltage settings or disabling turbo boost because I don't think I should have to for such a low demanding game. The computer is elevated with plenty of space for air intake. I do not have a cooling pad, though I will get one, but I still think this is extreme enough where it won't make a difference. I think it's worth noting that I already bought one before and the same thing happened after a week until it blue screened every 20 min and I had to return it. Am I missing something? Any help would be most appreciated.

First, try uninstalling any non-Microsoft antivirus software that may be running in the background. Then try setting your ControlPanel power plan to balanced instead of high performance to see how games go.  Jack E/NJ

Thanks for the reply! I had downloaded malwarebytes but I uninstalled it along with Norton so there were no virus programs. It was already set to balanced instead of high performance. I also erased GeForce Experience and disabled CCleaner. The computer was sitting idle a few hours later today and then blue screened to the Watchdog error for the first time. So this is the second computer of the same model that this has happened to. It is following the same pattern as the first.

I just did a clean windows 10 restore and am only downloading blizzard programs along with making sure the computer is updated via it's own update service so i can maybe pin point what is causing the crashing. This shouldn't be happening to a brand new computer though. I'm not doing anything sketchy or messing with internal settings or anything.

Did you use the ALT+F10 cold boot method outside of the Windows environment from the hidden recovery partition? If the cold boot method still doesn't fix the problem, then immediately return it to the vendor as defective for a refund before the vendor's return period expires. ACER warranty service will take longer. Jack E/NJ

Thanks JackE! I did what you said and it went the day without crashing but blue screened out again the next day while not even running anything strenuous. I will return the computer though I think it's odd this has happened with both computers. It seems like the computer is overbuilt and cannot handle the heat it generates. With both computers, I monitored the heat and made sure there weren't other programs running. The first one blue screened constantly after a week while this one blue screened after two days. Anyway, thanks again for the help! I really appreciate it:)

It's possible an automatic update could be the culprit. Open Control Panel. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point ' in the left pane. Click 'system restore ' button. Click 'next' . Do you see any automatic restore points that were created since you reset the system? Jack E/NJ

Yes. It was maybe a day or so after the cold restore and five hours before the blue screen. Also, a new issue has started where I cannot click on the desktop background or any of the shortcuts on it. Even restarting and shutting down don't fix this. A blue swirly replaces the pointer when I try to right click it.

LouisguidettiCan you boot into Windows? If yes, press Win+R. Enter 'control'. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point ' in the left pane. Click 'system restore ' button. Click 'next' . Then choose a restore point with a date when the problems started?  If it's a Win10 update we can temporarily block it till either Microsoft fixes it. Jack E/NJ
