New battery not being recognized by my Aspire V5-473P-5602 laptop :-(

Like many others, after 4 years, and beyond my warranty period  , my battery swelled up and split open the casing.

I took it to a laptop repair place and they took the battery out and explained to me that I needed to replace it.

I found a legitimate battery supplier on Amazon but the new battery they sent me is not being recognized by my laptop.

They even sent me a second new one and same issue persisted. Not recognized by my laptop

The orange light blinks and the battery icon continues to state "No battery is detected" even though I plugged it in myself(it's not rocket science).

I've tried all the cures found online such as paperclip in reset hole and re-installing the Battery drivers in the device manager.

I even did a Troubleshoot in Hardware & Sound section of control panel which fixed something..but unfortunately not this problem.

Looking for a fix as although the laptop works fine when plugged in it's a big time burden that I can't use it when disconnected from the outlet.

TIA,

Jonathan

This suggests either (1) a defective internal battery controller (2) a defective mainboard controller or (3) a corrupt battery software charge driver. Let's first assume it's number 3 a software issue. So open Device Manager. Click the "Batteries" folder. Uninstall ALL the drivers you find in this folder. Don't try to re-install anything in the Batteries folder. Exit Device Manager. Then shutdown. Turn the machine back on.   Jack E/NJ

Hi JackE, so I tried number 3 but the issue persists. I might note that when i turn off the machine or pull the power cord out, even though the blue light turns off the orange light continues to blink slowly..not sure if that reveals anything

    Aanyway, on to #2?

There should be no blinking orange/amber light when the charger is unplugged and the machine is turned off. No steady or blinking lights at all. Jack E/NJ

Try this. Open ControlPanel. Search 'button'. Click 'change what the power buttons do' in the left pane. Click 'change settings that currently are unavailable'. Scroll down and uncheck box for fast startup. Then shutdown. Is the light still blinking? Jack E/NJ

Yeah, so that didn't change anything..battery light still blinks slow orange when laptop shut down. I did notice that when I pulled the power cord and then pushed the power button that the speed of blinking orange light went from slow to fast and then off. So, in other words, it looked to me that the computer registered a little bit of juice left in battery, even though the icon clearly shows that it's not connected, but that drains quickly when I hold the power button in for a few seconds..Then the orange light goes blank...

Btw, while exploring that Button options page in Control Panel, I noticed this table that shows the option chosen for "When I press the power button" to be Sleep for both On Battery & Plugged in..See attachment

I noticed one of the other options is Shut Down.

Should that be the selected option? I didn't change it because I don't know what I'm doing..lol

Anyway, should we proceed to option #2 as you laid out in your prior email?

    J.

  • Are the voltage of the old battery and the new battery identical?

This new battery shows Rating: 15V===4000mAh

As the old one was bloated and toxic, it was thrown away. So, I don't know what the voltage was on the OEM battery. I'd imagine someone here could speak to that. Aspire V5-473P-5602

I usually have everything set to sleep.

You said earlier >>>I hold the power button in for a few seconds..Then the orange light goes blank...>>>

This suggests that Windows is not really shutting the laptop power off. Can you repeat this behavior?  With the orange light finally off, what happens to the light when you plug the charger back in without trying to turn anything on. Jack E/NJ

So, when I do that after plugging in the charger the battery light stays a solid orange for around 10 min and then starts blinking...crazy.
  • Have you set these buttons to shutdown?

Have you tried turning off fast startup?

I haven't set to Shut Down as Sleep was the default selection and I don't want to play around with settings not knowing what I'm doing. I would try that but wouldn't that mean every time I hit the power button the laptop shuts down. How would I start the laptop?

If I'm incorrect with my assessment, I would try changing it from Sleep to Shutdown.

I tried turning off fast startup but it didn't change anything...

No Battery Detected still shows all the time.....
  • I think JackE may be correct. However, I would try to update the bios to the latest version to verify that it resolves the issue.

So, I found the BIOS for my laptop on Acer's Download page and I have a later version of it already on my laptop.

So, from what I've read, nothing to be done on the BIOS side....

    Any suggestions?

Is a bios version more current than the version being made available on the Acer website? Can you upload a screenshot of the bios information tab?ções da bios?

    Here you go..
  • In fact, your bios version is at 2.28. I would try to upgrade to version 2.30, but I'm not sure if it will solve your problem.

@egydiocoelho 's suggesting a  BIOS update might be on target since v2.29 states 'Fix system sometime shutdown by PECI read fail in Win PE' which loosely translated from a strange English dialect seems to indicate some kind of a Windows shutdown issue. Worth a try as long as the machine doesn't get bricked.  :o   Jack E/NJ
