Hi

My NB is ACER ASPIRE V3-371-31LJ. The build-in LCD panel is 1366x768 only.
I would like to upgrade it to FHD(1920x1080) AUO B133HAN04.2.
It is using a 30pin eDP interface too.

How NB know the LCD panel upgraded & output FHD signal?
Did BIOS can check it(change) automatically?

    Hi,
Yes, you can upgrade to B133HAN04.2, could you please find out the current panel model, you can use HWiNfo64 free program to find out the model in your laptop.

Do ASPIRE V3-371-31LJ detect and change to FHD after installed FHD LCD?

Or necessary config it in BIOS?

    Please share the set-up info.

Nothing is required to be changed in he firmware settings, it's taken care of automatically. Think of when you plug an external monitor, Windows chooses for it the recommended resolution based on the native one, same would happen here.

The only thing I can think of are brightness tables, they're embedded into the firmware of the machine and control things like how dark or bright can a certain panel get or the steps in between, but they're out of your control too.

The only thing you need to make sure of is that the new panel physically matches the one you have like @brummyfan2 (btw there seems to be a brummyfan3 :D). Check the one you have and look for its characteristics. You'll need:
    • Same connector and same position, or the cable may not reach it.
    • Same anchoring points, some come with placements for screws that affix the panel to the frame either at the top and bottom or at the sides, other come bare because the panel is just held by the bezels. Those have to match too.
    And that's it.

    Hi @aphanic

    Thanks for your comment.
With your example(external monitor) that is right. The OS will detect it. I think it is a function of an LCD driver in the monitor. But on laptop the LCD driver circuit is build-in. Excepted for the driver circuit will ack LCD panel or LCD panel will tell the system who am I.

Also, the FHD panel require 2-lan. Is it supported? I want clear on it.

    Thanks

    Hi @LC2047
Have you found out the current panel in your laptop? If not, please find out the model name and post, as you have already said in your original post, it's using 30 pin eDP cable, the same cable is compatible with 2 lanes panel as well, as @aphanic said, you don't need to worry about the driver for the new panel.

For that you'd need someone with knowledge or access to the schematics or specifications of your model, maybe people from the ACE ranks. What is your current panel anyway?

By the way, you wouldn't be able to return the panel if it didn't work right?

    @brummyfan2, @aphanic

My laptop is ASPIRE V3-371-31LJ, the LCD panel is B133XTN01.3. I would like to upgrade to LQ133M1JW15(FHD).
    The specifications had been attached.
I don't worry about LCD panel & cable. I concern that laptop mainboard doesn't know the resolution of display changed.
Is ASPIRE V3-371-31LJ has the capability to upgrade the FHD LCD panel?
For example, 1) 2-lanes(Lane 0&1) are avable on laptop mainboard(hardware). 2) laptop will ack LCD for panel information.

Notice there are difference in the anchoring points of the panels, other than that I really can't say about the motherboard authoritatively I'm afraid:

    @aphanic

You are right. I will fix the panel with glue.  Except for the crew holds, the dimension is similar.
    I concern motherboard software issue.

    Hi

Progress update, my ASPIRE V3-371-31LJ success upgrade LCD to FHD with LP133WF4 panel(can't find LQ133M1JW15 in the market)

@aphanic  you are right. my NB can communicate with LCD for panel information for example display resolution. I think that it via LANE-AUX  or another. Before I am worried that NB hardware not available(not support LANE-1). the initial panel necessary LANE-0 enough.

Anyway, thanks for everybody help me.

I'm glad it was solved and that you reported back, it's good when that happens because people stumbling upon threads may find answers already ;)

    Best wishes!
