Just got a new Acer Aspire 7. I like it a lot. But sometimes the fan will become super loud and turn on and off, on and off. Seems strange to me. Should I be worried? It's still under warranty, but I would rather not have to send it in.  Any thoughts?

It's probably got metal impellers. They're louder but more robust than plastic jobs that you're probably more accustomed to. They're doing their job removing a lot of heat produced from hiperf CPU/GPU under heavy load in a congested laptop environment. If it's unacceptable, I suggest that you return the system to the vendor ASAP before the vendor's returns policy period ends for a refund. Then look for another model because I think "howling" is in the nature of this beast's fan when it's smoking under gaming load. Jack E/NJ

Thanks for the comment. I have a follow up question: One thing that still worries me is this: I didn't notice the fan running a lot or very loud for the first few weeks, but then it seemed to change. Now the fan seems to be running a lot more, even with ordinary tasks like email. (I do notice it most when it's connected to my monitor)

Open ControlPanel. Search 'power plan'. Click 'choose a power plan' in left pane. Change it from HiPerf to Balanced.  Also, uninstall --- don't just disable --- any non-Microsoft anti-malware running in the background checking every email or click you make online --- Defender and MaliciousSoftwareTool is all that's needed for most folks.
