Hello everyone. I just got a Predator 300 2018 model about 3 weeks ago and I have a problem updating to Windows 10 1903. I see the block message in windows update "there are still some issues with my device being comparable with 1903." I am still getting cumulative updates for 1803 but time is running out. I have updated both Intel and Nvidia 1060 video drivers, disabled the SD card reader in device manager. I have Intel Rapid Storage Technology for the 256GB SSD but it tells me I have no Optane Intel memory modules installed. I have factory default hardware with a Toshiba HDD out of the box with 16gigs of RAM and I-7 8750H CPU. Seeing Windows version 1803 only has support until November of this year then its end of life for 1803. What should I do?

(1) Just wait the last three months out and hope Acer/Microsoft can resolve these issue(s)?
(2) Only install driver update Intel RST from the Intel support website? Seeing I have no Optane Intel memory modules installed or should I install both?

The Intel site says to contact my system manufacturer prior to installing these applications or requesting technical support from Intel. They may provide software that is specifically configured for my device Also the Intel site states The Intel® RST driver SetupRST.exe driver should be installed after the operating system has been installed. F6 and RAID BIOS configurations need to be performed prior to installation of this driver for proper operation. Not sure what they mean by 'F6' but I'm not using RAID and I didn't think this device supported RAID nothing in BIOS setup for RAID. I just have the SSD and the 1TB HDD only.

I found no "drivers" that was dated after May 2019 on Acer's website all drivers are dated 2018.

Took a long shot and called Acer support customer service. Tried calling 3 different times. First two calls was a waste of time first rep told me they don't support windows and gave me a 800 number to some third party company that wanted to remote into my PC first thing. lol.. yeah right. Second rep was to busy eating I couldn't understand anything he was saying. At least the third rep tried her best to get an answer but Nobody up there really has a clue about this problem.

Any feedback is very much appreciated.

Thank you!

thunderkiss Unfortunately the RST issues its a MS bug  which they havent sorted out yet you have to contact MS support to get it sorted Acer has nothing to do with MS software issues and are you having any issues to want to upgrade to 1903 personally i dont recommend it if you dont have issues as it might be ok but also might get even worse its still really buggy and aka acer support is correct they dont support windows software its MS responsibility to support it as they are the ones who sell it to all manufacturers so again my best advice to you its to contact MS support directly if you wish to really upgrade to 1903

you said <<time is running out now >> why ??? no one can force you to update you can even go to a previous build if you wanted to and the meaning F6 its when you have to configure a raid with third party drivers for ex when you have raid adapters installed this is usually done for desktops you have to hit F6 to load the adapters drivers via usb/cd/dvdrom or any other possible way

PS: All acer drivers in support page will not get updated regularly because they are customized especially for your device best performance they alwasy will work fine so they will only be updated/customised again if issues arise with the stock OS build that your device had out of the box if you check MS forums this issue has been poping up for a long time now since they released 1903 publicly and even after updating the rst drivers according to MS support windows its not recognizing the updated drivers still treat it as old ones just this is just a big joke around MS now well me im still on 1809 since day 1 disabled updates permanently straight away and not moving up ever because i dont have and never had any issues :) thats my advice to everyone if its not broken dont try to fix it it might get even worse

Yes, I read that MS will start pushing this 1903 soon to all devices that are still on 1803 that have not resolved the software/hardware conflicts soon. End of life for 1803 is November 2019

Well 1803 is a bit buggy. I have been able to fix or work around all but one that is very frustrating to me and I know this might sound silly.. but the ***** touch-pad/mouse pointer keeps skipping around the desktop and just stops working randomly until after I take my finger of the touch-pad and mouse is the same. This is while just working on the desktop opening apps like web browser opening new browser tabs or just moving the pointer along the desktop just stops responding randonly until I left my finger off the touchpad or lift the mouse off the table with no mouse connected touch-pad still acts up and even when hitting the start menu the OS seems to struggle at random times like it seems with apps this is when I see the pointer start locking up. I have tried every suggestion that's commonly found on google or duckduckgo search engines. Nothing has resolved this problem even tried disabling services thinking one might be causing the problem.

The CPU is at normal load 5% - 10% usage. I have enough free RAM. I've ran out of ideas I just figured its an 1803 bug even with the MS updates it still has not been resolved. It sounds silly but yeah that's my only gripe at this point I thought if I could just get to at least another version maybe that would fix the touchpad/mouse problem but I guess that's not going to be possible at this point for my device.

How do you disable the windows automatic updates and make them stick??

Can't disable any related services because windows will just re-enable and start them up again after a while. In the past on another laptop I have tried some registry hacks MS some how finds the hack and rolls back my fix but yet windows can't resolve this stupid issue with pointing devices lol.

thunderkiss You can upgrade yourself to 1809 by loosing the acer stock recovery partition (if you clone your driver into another one you will never loose the stock recovery) and download the build you want create a bootable usb drive via rufus disable secure boot on bios (to disable scure boot you have to set a supervisor password) and fresh install it you are correct 183 its the worst of the windows builds  was that the stock build your unit had out of the box ?  as 1703 was the best one followed by 1809 anway hope any of this helps in any way

If you arent sure of what build you had on stock you can also try a clean stock fresh install ALT+F10 on boot do not keep your files option it will format the system drive to stock out of the box

Whatever option you choose you should always keep a cloned drive with your acer stock recovery partition/os because if you fresh install windows using a usb drive without had cloned it first you will never get it again its gone forever Acer provide/sell stock recovery usb drives for various models but in US only they will not ship it internationally

Ok thanks for the suggestions I plan on trying to dig up a storage device to clone a image of my Acer OS soon before MS trys to push this update. By the way how were you able to block win 10 from updating?

I have metered wifi option enabled to block any updates that come after 1803 reaches the end of support date. Its the only thing I can make sort of stick but I'm screwed if I try to use wired connection. I don't think metered option works for wired connections.

do you have a better way to block windows update services?.. if so could you please provide URL link to a website with instructions. Would be very much appreciated.

Does Microsoft still offer 1809 ISO for download from the MS website? I heard they stopped before 1903 was released.

Oh yeah I forgot about this trick. I remember watching a YouTube video a while back about this before they released 1903 thanks for the link.

So I should be able to run all drivers and Predator Sense software on 1809 with no problems right?..
