My Acer Laptop won't connect to my HDTV. Can American laptops connect to Korean TVs?

I've been trying to connect my laptop to my HDTV with an HDMI cable, but nothing is working. I'm wondering if the problem is because I'm living in Korea and using a Korean HDTV, while my laptop is American? Otherwise I have no clue what the problem might be.

When I plug in the HDMI cable it causes my laptop screen to go black, but nothing shows up on the TV. I know that pressing Window + P gives me the option choose extend/duplicate/second screen only, but nothing happens when I select any of them. I tried changing the resolution on my laptop, it didn't do anything. I tried plugging multiple different HDMI cables into every port available and nothing is working.

Can anyone help me out here? Thanks.

That just does the same thing as Window + P, which doesn't work. For some reason my TV and Laptop just refuse to recognize eachother.

Try another cable. Try another TV set. Jack E/NJ
