Acer Aspire E5 571 - Touchpad chip heating up - need replacement?

Hi guys,

I have an Acer Aspire E5 571 and it started playing up recently. First it stopped turning on, the blue light coming on for 3 seconds and just going off, no noise from the laptop atall.

Took it to a repair shop and they’ve just informed me it’s randomly started switching on fine again.

I inspected the laptop myself before taking it to them and noticed the touchpad was getting really hot in one area.

Got it it home and looked inside and there’s a black chip that is heating up to the point it’s distorting the mousepad. See attached pics. The touchpad now isn’t working.

So my question is this, I’m planning on buying a replacement touchpad. It’s model 920-002755-06RevA and I’ve noticed people on eBay selling a similar model 920-02755-07 in the same colour.

Would swapping these be compatible, or does it generally have to be the exact same model of touchpad?

Also whats up with the black chip, does this just suggest it’s gone faulty and that’s what may have caused the previous laptop issues?

cheers!

    Hello,
Could you give me the first ten characters of the laptop serial number (S/N)?

    Hello,
Thanks. The Acer part numbers are:
    56.MPMN2.001 - TOUCH PAD.W/MYLAR.BLUE.ELANTECH
    56.MPSN2.001 - TOUCH PAD.W/MYLAR.BLUE.SYNAPTICS
You'll find more easily the right part by googling the part numbers above.

Mine is also heating up. It started when I tried to swap the internal battery with a new one. Did you ever replace yours with a new part? And did the problem go away?

    Thanks,
