How to disable hyperthreading to mitigate MDS with a Nitro 5

Hello all. A friend of mine very very recently (past few days) purchased a new Nitro 5 laptop. It's a very fast machine, and pretty too, but the BIOS doesn't let HyperThreading be turned off. Since Hyperthreading makes the microcode mitigations Intel developed to protect against MDS data leakage ineffective, it must be disabled.

As you have probably seen, Google has disabled it on all Chrome OS devices (Chromebooks)
https://sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/dev/chromium-os/mds-on-chromeos

and Apple also provides guidance to disable it on their computers

This is quite critical. The laptop is fast, but can't be used safely. How do we turn it off?
