XB271HU Side USB3 Ports - External Storage Disconnects During Copy

Whenever I plug in any external storage type devices that I am copying a bunch of data off, the side USB3 ports on my XB271HU disconnect after a few minutes.

  • Backing up my iPhone or iPad works for 10 minutes then disconnects with the USB eject sound effect from Windows 10. It'll reconnect itself after a few seconds but of course the file copy has been interrupted because the device is suddenly missing.
  • Copying a bunch of data off a external USB3 hard drive will copy for 10 - 15 minutes and then eject itself. It'll reconnect itself after a few seconds but of course the file copy has been interrupted because the device is suddenly missing.
  • My Logitech steering wheel, game pads, fight sticks, pretty much everything else I plug into those ports work fine for hours.
  • USB3 flash drives are fine, that being said I'm rarely copying more than 10GB of data onto them so it doesn't take as long.
  • It's multiple devices - not just a single iPad or a single USB3 external drive.

It's really only sustained activity - such as a mass file copy or backing up / restoring my ipad or iphone - through those USB3 ports have this disconnect issue. I have my keyboard and mouse plugged into the bottom USB3 ports on my monitor, and those stay connected for hours as well.

Plugging the same devices into my motherboard - or even into a super cheap USB3 non-powered hub that's plugged into my motherboard works fine. I can copy 500gb of data onto an external drive for hours without it disconnecting. So it's something tied into the side USB3 ports on the monitor.

Any idea what the problem is or how to fix it?
