Possible Flaw in the Design of the Nitro 5

Not sure how many people are having this issue... but I've tried to bring it up to Acer support on numerous occasions and they refuse to believe it is anything more than my individual device acting up, even though I have now witnessed it on 3 separate Nitro 5 laptops, both the AMD and the Intel Models.  Apparently if you bring anything magnetic anywhere near the area of the keyboard/hand rest area just to the left of the track pad (picture the spot where the Oculus Ready sticker is) it will cause the screen to go black, and if left there for more than a split second it will cause the unit to power down.  I discovered this when trying to use my laptop for work related activities and the magnetic clasp on my smart watch band slid over the location in question.  Instantly my nitro 5 (the Intel Model) powered down.  I first assumed I was an ***** and didn't have enough battery... and somehow missed the low battery warning... but even then it seemed odd.  I went ahead and booted it back up... still had more than 90% battery, and went back to work... again same issue.  I have since tested this on my wife's Nitro 5 (AMD Model) and the same issue occurred.  I also tried this on a demo laptop at a local big box electronics store and again... same issue.

I'm not sure how to get Acer to listen to this issue.

Any help is appreciated

    Good night Icratt!

In fact it is not a "problem" but a characteristic.

I have already seen this happen in other models, even other developers.

The point is that internally, there are locations with magnets that activate or deactivate certain functions.

In the Nitro 5 series, in the area located near the hardware identification stickers, near the touchpad and keyboard, there is a magnet inside that functions as a switch, in which the notebook notices that the screen is closed.

For this reason the manuals state that no magnetic material should be used near the apparatus.

I would have agreed with you... but it is not located where there would be an offset magnet from the lid to indicate screen closure... the only thing above that location is screen.

A user of the Brazilian forum has confirmed that by using a magnetic bracelet, when passing the wrists over this location, the model Nitro 5 AN515-51-50U2 turns off the screen.
