Upgraded to Windows 10 now need help getting back to Windows 8.1

My grandson has a Spin 1 sp111-31 series that he upgraded to Windows 10. As it's known Windows 10 updates won;t work on machines like this because there's not enough disk space. And I don;t have time or patience to jump through hoops t make it work, so I wiped the storage and re-installed Windows 8.1. I'm trying to get Windows updates but it keeps failing. So I went to the Acer website to get the correct drivers for the mouse pad and wifi, etc... from there. Where the OS is listed, with a drop down arrow, it says windows 10. But it doesn't have windows 10 installed on it anymore. It has widows 8.1 installed. When I click on the down arrow for the OS the only option is Windows 10. Any thoughts? TIA!
