Hello

I bought this laptop recently (I was desperate and it was this or nothing). It's so slooooow!

I see it only has 4GB RAM.

It's not one of the ones with an access panel for the RAM, is it reasonable to suppose that there will be a second port so that I can add some more RAM?

And secondly, how much more should I add? If I buy 8GB, do I leave the 4GB in there as well, so making it 12?

And finally, as I will have to take the whole thing to pieces, is moving the keys around easy - it's an AZERTY keyboard... told you I was desperate at the time I bought it!

Thanks

It only has one slot that can accept up to an 8GB DDR3 laptop memory module maximum. The lower case and battery must be removed to exchange the module. Go to crucial dot com for specifications on the module. https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Acer/aspire-a315-33

The keyboard and keys physically cannot be easily changed as the whole top case must be replaced. There are software methods that you may be able to reprogram some keys  including https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/237179/assign-macro-or-function-to-keys-on-your-keyboard

Thank you. Very helpful. Is that going to make an appreciable difference, or would I be better off buying something new? At the moment it is next to completely useless.

Oh, and what's the difference between the 8GB one at £43 and the one at £47? Thanks.

The biggest speed bang for the pound will likely come from swapping out the 2.5" HDD for a 2.5" SSD, not doubling the RAM. The more expensive RAM has a slightly higher speed rating that will likely make an imperceptable difference on your machine. Jack E/NJ

Thanks. Is it going to make a worthwhile difference do you think? Currently the thing is basically a brick. Doubling the speed would not be sufficient improvement. Good money after bad...?

Before you spend anything, I suggest opening task manager to see what the CPU, Memory & Disk usage is on average. Just press WIN+R and enter 'taskmgr'. You may have some unneccessary background processes running like non-Microsoft antimalware or antivirus that are gobbling up resources and slowing things way down. Jack E/NJ
