New Acer Aspire 7 (a717-72g-76w) problems?

I bought this new laptop a few days ago, with a paid digital win 10 license.

For some reason Windows Defender/Security does not work - everything is greenlit, but clicking quick scan/scan/custom scan does nothing, which is very weird. I am also unable to turn on real-time detection  (and it is currently disabled by graying out the option, with the following red text above it "This setting is managed by your administrator", when my account is clearly an Administrator.)

Furthermore, when I play games, like Mutant Road to Eden, I experience random lag spikes for 1 to 2 seconds, even though the laptop is killing the application at 60 fps+

What's going on? I used an application to check my temperatures, CPU seems to be running on 78-85 when in-game, GPU at 79.

    Good afternoon SpiritBoy !

    Come for the basics:
    Update your Windows update;
    Update all your drivers;
    Set the device to the high-range plan in the Windows power options.

    As for the Windows Defender, click here: https://www.minitool.com/backup-tips/windows-defender-not-turning-on.html

    I received windows with all my drivers installed, including Acer Care center. All updates are installed, as well as my digital licence linked to my microsoft account. Everything seems good, yet it isn't. I'll check out the solution for the Windows Defender/Security, but what might be causing the random lag spikes? Is it related?

    Even with the drivers installed, the updates are constant and should already be outdated.

    As for the FPS drop, the device will only achieve maximum performance when plugged into the power outlet and the high performance power plan options.

    Yeah - it is plugged in when I play on it, and I've also enabled the high performance plan on my latest tests - lag still happens.

    Still experiencing the same issue, even after resetting my PC and manually installing all the drivers.

    A technician said it could be caused from the latest windows feature update, but it seems that's not the case.

    What version Windows are you running? (Press the windows key and R & then type winver in the box and an OK).

    Version 1809. I'm really stumped. I've tried so many different things.

    Windows Defender for 1809 sometimes required registry changes to function correctly. But, I wouldn't recommend you doing them.

    If you've made a recovery USB or DVD so you can reinstall what came from the factory, then go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 for the media creation tool. You can either create media or update the machine now. The version of Windows you have may be missing important updates. Recovery areas on disk drives aren't updated with new fixes and neither is the software being sent out by manufacturers. 1809 isn't available any longer so you're stuck with getting 1903.

    Worst case, if the 1903 doesn't function you can reinstall what came with your machine and be back to where you are today.

    You can go to the following link and download a new ISO copy of Windows 10 1809. Once you have it, you can install it telling the installer to save your programs and data just like a regular upgrade. It will replace all the 1809 which came from Acer with a fresh updated copy directly from Microsoft. Microsoft must be fooled into giving you 1809 because their servers have moved on to 1903. Follow their instructions for your browser. It's a bit tricky to find the stuff but it works in Chrome and Edge without any problems. Tell it to install updates as it does the installation.
