When I started looking at Chromebooks I got a lot of "what Chromebooks won't do". I neglected two points. One was that some people are devoted to what they have and don't want to consider something new and the other is that Chromebooks and Chrome OS are changing rapidly. A post on this forum made me think about the old external hard drives I used to back up photo files from my Windows computer.

I got two external hard drives out, one Toshiba and one LG, and plugged them in. They both worked flawlessly. I was looking at my .jpeg photos from 2006. I went to a file of RAW files from a Pentax DSLR and they didn't show as a batch but I could look at each photo individually. I was pleasantly surprised and I will not assume, or necessary believe others, when they say something doesn't work with Chromebooks.

Yes the chrome book works with most of all the external devices but there is no guarantee provided by the google itself. They state that most of the external HDD would works. However, there is a limitation. Not sure what is the limitation. I'm guessing it depends on the size of HDD.
