The motherboard power connection is turned in a different direction. Should I turn a new connector to the same color wiring? The black wires are the commons, right?

Yes That helps a lot! Even though the new PS has a 4 to 8 pins option, I hadn't noticed the slight deference's in the pins. Thank you very much. There isn't any support for this companies' "In China" products.

The power connector on the motherboard should be keyed so you can only install it one way.

It's a 4 prong and can go any direction

Unless it's not the connector I'm thinking of, it is keyed. Here's an example image
Notice how each of the four pins has a slightly different shape? That forces you to connect it correctly.
