Hello,
I have a brand new Acer A515-52G laptop running on Windows 10. I am experiencing a 'weird' internet connectivity issue.
- The laptop connects to the Wifi (no problem in that)
- However - the internet is too slow (say 2 mins to load Google.com webpage!)
- By performing a network troubleshooting - I do not get any errors
- On turning on and turning off Airplane mode, I regain good internet connectivity occasionally (say 5% of the cases)
- However, I am able to solve the problem only by turning off and turning on the modem/ router
- The entire problem restarts once the computer is locked/ awakens from sleep mode (merely shutting down and restarting does not solve the problem, its only by restarting the modem)

The other devices of mine - Android phone, iPhone, and HP laptop have no such problems at all.
This is not limited to an internet browser - some problem across Chrome, Firefox.

This is increasingly becoming frustrating. Kindly help

How do you usually put the computer to sleep? Jack E/NJ

    Hello JackE,
I do not really lock the laptop, as its a home laptop.
Mostly when its left idle, it locks itself.

The biggest power drain is the screen, not the computer. I suggest editing your Control Panel power plan to set the computer to never go to sleep. Jack E/NJ

    Sure will do that.
But the fundamental problem will not be solved right - the internet connection is too slow, despite being connected to WiFi :-(

So are you saying that your statement >>>The entire problem restarts once the computer is locked/ awakens from sleep mode>>> is really not the entire problem? Jack E/NJ

Oops. Apologies if that is how it got conveyed.

It's more like - I need to restart the modem/ router everytime to get good internet speed (otherwise the computer is still connected to the WiFi, but speed is very poor).
During the session (say for 4-5 hour period), if there is no breaks, the internet continues to work well. Any break, and the problem resurfaces.

    Hello JackE,
Have found another workaround which has atleast saved me from restarting the modem each time.

I changed my laptop's WiFi preferred band to 2.4 GHZ
(reached via: Open Network and Sharing Centre --> Change your adapter setting --> Right clicked on Wifi network --> Properties --> Configure --> Advanced Tab --> Preferred Band --> Changed value from Automatic to 2.4 GHZ)

When the internet connection slowed down again, I changed it to Automatic/ 5 GHZ and then changed it back to 2.4 GHZ and viola, internet speed was restored.

Note: I have a dual band router/ modem.
When I checked the devices connected on it, my Android phone was seamlessly able to change from 2.4 GHZ to 5 GHZ and back, with not disruption in connectivity.

Does it offer any clue on what the actual problem could be?

Congrats. What's wrong? The router's autoswitch doesn't like the laptop's autoswitch or vice-versa. Why not choose one  band that all your devices seem happy with? Jack E/NJ
