I have this laptop and it needs a BIOS update as it runs 2.11 currently. The issue is that I do not run Windows of any flavour, it has Linux installed. I have tried running the BIOS update from DOS but the executable will not run in DOS mode. How am I supposed to update the BIOS when no version of Windows is installed?

    Good Morning broadstairs !

Firstly, what reason or need to upgrade to Bios?

I am always wondering why people answer a question with a question! It really does not matter why I want to do this, just accept that I do.

I just want to know how I'm supposed to achieve this when ACER only supply a windows executable and I do not run Windows of any flavour.

    WRONG!

If you really knew what you were doing, you would not be here for help.

I am not obliged to accept absolutely nothing that no uninformed user does.

Education in treating others is proportional in value.

Bios updates are extremely delicate and risky processes and should only be performed in serious cases of serious system errors or extreme need for correction or compatibility.
Outside this is a process that should be avoided to the maximum, especially if your machine is working perfectly.

Acer does not manufacture or develop Bios.
They are provided with eople developers who mostly only provide updates via EXE.

Do it at your own risk: https://raelcunha.com/2015/12/23/updating-bios-with-ubuntu/

The issue with the Ubuntu process is that it assumes FreeDOS will run the executable file, it does not it produces an error message saying the program will not run in DOS mode.

BTW I have over 50 years experience in computing as an engineer and worked for IBM. I had involvement with the first IBM PCs so I do know what I'm doing!

Well ... with that supposed experience, you should know what you're doing.
In "only" 14 years as Analyst, Consultant and Developer, I have already updated several Bios through several Linux distributions without any problem.
    There are several solutions.
    Just search!
