I'm having an issue with my very old Acer 5100 Series when I installed a new OS (Ubuntu Server)
My main issue is that the laptop recognized zero network interfaces.
I think this is a firmware issue mainly due to other forum posts, but i've tried many of their solutions to no prevail.
Any help would be appreciated.

    (1) What is the full ACER model number? Aspire 5110? Veriton 5100? TravelMate 5100?
    (2) What was the original factory-installed OS?
    (3) What other forum posts are you referring to?
    (4) What Ubuntu site did you download the iso version from?

Highly unlikely a BIOS firmware issue. Is it dual boot with WinVista? Jack E/NJ

They were as I can recall, my problem that I think I have now is a driver issue but I tried finding information about that and it seems I have to have the licensing for the software.

The Aspire 5100 was actually an WinXP-era AMD Turion platform equipped with ACER-flavored Win-only drivers for integrated plain vanilla 10MB/100MB LAN and 802.11b/g Acer-flavored invilink broadcom or atheros adapters. I'm fairly sure that Ubuntu-flavored drivers are available for this older laptop but not directly from ACER. Accordingly, I suggest that you post your LAN & Wifi driver request on the stack exchange https://askubuntu.com/ or https://ubuntuforums.org
