Regrettably I purchased an Acer Predator Helios 300, and more regrettably I did not test it for gaming during the 30 day return period.
Quickly discovered that CPU heats to 100c (On pubg lowest graphic settings), and undervolting reduced to 95c with occasional crashing. GPU (gtx 1060) temps were nominal.
Had computer serviced at Micro Center. They re-pasted + cleaned heat sink/fans. Informed that CPU was still overheating, they replaced motherboard under warranty.
2 1/2 weeks later I pick up my laptop. Fans noticeably louder, and CPU temps are now nominal. GPU temps are now at high 90s (pubg lowest graphics settings), constant fps drop to 10-15. GPU very quickly reaching 100% usage.
Still unusable for gaming.
Updated BIOS + NVIDIA and VGA drivers to most recent, no improvement.
Used the settings described in
this video (found on this fourm), no improvement.
No improvement with cooling pad, still mid to high 90c on GPU, CPU is nominal.
CPU and GPU temps are around 50c at idle.
Computer is still under warranty, and I can bring it back to Micro-Center. I imagine that after already replacing the motherboard they will send it off, and from what I understand this can be a months long adventure.
Should I just cut my $1100 losses and get a different computer?
