I have an Acer Aspire E1 -771 Laptop Windows 7 and 64bit.

I am having some visual problems. SO - I picked up a used Dell P109St flat panel monitor - and I would like to like to attach it to my Acer Aspire E1-771 Laptop. I did pull the user guide from Dell. When I follow their instructions for a non-Dell laptop I am told to: 1. Right click the desktop and click on Properties - 2. select the settings tab -3. select advanced - 4. identify your graphics controller supplier from the description at the top of the window 5. refer to the graphics card provider website for updated driver i.e. NVIDIA,ATI, or INTEL.  After installing the drivers for your graphics adapter attempt to set the resolution to 1280X1024 again.

When I do the right click on the desktop I am not given a "properties" choice but I am given Graphics Properties. When I click that I am given an option to click on Advanced Mode: showing all settings -when I do that - I am given an option under Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel - advanced mode - display to click on Monitor/Display settings. Lastly - when I do that I am informed that Monitor and TV settings are not supported.

Can anyone in the community offer some help to me so that I can get the monitor connected? Thanks, ever so much. Gologlock.

Open Control Panel. Search 'external monitor'. Click 'connect to an external monitor' in the left pane. Click on the detect & identify buttons. What do you see? Are you using VGA or HDMI port? Jack E/NJ
