Hi there - I've got 2 Acer Spin B TMD118-RN-C4HX laptops with damaged DC-in jacks where the plug won't go in..
We're in the UK, and this is a small village school with no money!
I suspect this has been caused by careless kids...
The DC-in connector is soldered onto the motherboard.
I'm quite happy to take the board out and resolder the connectors - but I can't find suitable replacement jacks to buy. This is the type with the very small 3mm diameter x 7.5mm long power jack and 19v 45w power supply.
Can anyone suggest a source or part number for replacement parts. Any assistance gratefully accepted.

These should be center-pin jacks that fit the charger plug center hole. Except in your situation the center-pins are likely bent and aren't centered any more. Common problem -- lousy design -- not the kids' fault. So peer inside the jack, straighten the pin with a tweezers, small screwdriver or tool of some kind, so it'll be aligned with the plug hole. JackE - thanks for your comment - sadly the pin is straight but the socket behind is damaged - the connector goes in a short way but does not make contact to power the laptop. So it really needs a new connector on the motherboard. Still looking for a suitable conenctor. Regards Alex

Sorry, the individual socket is not listed as a separate part number as it's considered an integral part of the mainboard. Can you actually see what is preventing the plug from being inserted deeper into the socket itself to make contact? Jack E/NJ

I got a magnifying glass, small torch and tiny screwdriver out. Looking down the hole I can now see that the side contact that should make a connection to the outside of the 3mm plug is bent out and is in contact with the central pin, preventing the plug from going in. I have tried carefully pushing the contact back into position with a tiny screwdriver, but it just springs back out to prevent insertion of the plug. I can't see any way of bending it back into position. Guess I'll have to keep looking for a replacement connector or scrap the machine. The school have another 18 of these laptops, so it's quite a worry for them. Alex

Do you have the cover off or are you trying to do this thru the hole itself. Jack E/NJ
