Try to turn the touchpad back on by pressing the FN+F7 touchpad toggle key combination. Jack E/NJ

Open Device Manager. Do you see any red or yellow warnings? Jack E/NJ

No. But when I click the mice and other devices button, only my USB mouse is shown

Would you try updating touch-pad driver again? Your picture shows the driver installation/update status as failed.

OK. In Device Manager, click on the View tab. Then checkmard 'show hidden devices'. Under both the Mice etc and Human Interface folders, do you see either two mice listed and/or an HID compliant touchpad? Jack E/NJ

Only my HID compliant mouse is shown from the Mice and other pointing devices folder.

Open Control Panel. Search 'restore point'. Click 'create a restore point' in the left pane. Click 'system restore' button. Click 'next'. If you see a and automatic restore point with a date and time stamp just before the touchpad was lost, click on it to restore the system to that point in time. Jack E/NJ

On which BIOS version is your PC right now? I see so many BIOS updates for your model regarding touch-pad.

    (1) What was the original factory-installed Windows version?
    (2) You've apparently applied several BIOS updates. What problems were you having before the touchpad issue that you felt these updates would solve?

Thanks raptr  I think the problem here right now is that the touchpad driver updates tried from the ACER download site https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/support-product/5487?b=1   don't seem to detect the touchpad hardware. And the BIOS firmware to which I have access doesn't have a touchpad option. Jack E/NJ

    1) How would you find that out?
    2) These were apparently critical updates that were meant to be updated with the 'improve touchpad performance' but that ended up failing.
    Thanks

    (1) When did you purchase the system?

    (2) BIOS firmware updates are not usually classified as automatic critical Windows updates. They must be manually downloaded and installed only for machines that are experiencing problems. Did you download these BIOS updates and try to install them? Did you read the warnings about trying install them? They are probably the riskiest updates due to their potential for disabling hardware?

    1) Do you mean my computer? If so December 2014
    2) I bought my device to a technician and they downloaded them for me, but the downloads didn't help with anything. Should I delete them?
    Thanks

BIOS updates can't be deleted without disabling the machine. Did you take it to a technician because you were you having problems with the touchpad? Jack E/NJ
