I have an Acer Aspire E 15.
In Device Manager I get an error message under Firmware "Acer Inc. System Firmware 1.18.
When i right click properties reads "This device cannot work properly until you restart your computer. (Code 14)
Click Restart Computer to restart your computer."
I've restarted the computer a number of times but still get the firmware error in Device Manager.
In the Acer Care Center it says the BIOS is version 1.08
Under the "Update" tab in the Acer Care Center, "Critical Updates" tab says "System is up to date" but under the
"Update History tab" a Firmware update from 2016-7-22 is listed for update. "Update firmware v1.17 to improve touchpad performance"
Is this system not automatically updating the firmware???
Thanks

Generally, Firmware isn't automatically updated for good reason.
I presume your system is working normally except for this error in Device Manager?
This might be just a driver mismatch problem. Could you try to update the driver directly from Device Manager?

    Open Device Manager
Expand Firmware section and Double Click on Firmware "Acer Inc. System Firmware 1.18
    Click on Driver Tab
    Click on Update Driver
Click on "Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software". Install any updates found. If no updated driver is found then choose the other option "Search for updated drivers on Windows Update".

Does this solve your problem? If not could you try a driver roll back? Same process as above but instead of choosing "Update Driver" choose "Roll Back Driver".

Have you checked in BIOS to see exactly what Firmware version is installed?

always check acer website for driver updates for your laptop! If there are any firmware updates they will be there to download and install. In this case i would reinstall the driver from acer
