Problem with getting help from the site -detection/s/n, etc

Hello,
A few months ago I purchased a laptop at a flea market and I am finally having time to work on it.  It is an acer 5516 and I have tried to use this website to obtain the software, etc in order to get the laptop running again properly.  I have tried to use both Chrome and Firefox browsers to use the search by s/n or SNID, and each time I try, it states that there is an problem and to try again.  I also tried to use the drop-down list (on both browsers) and when I try to select a device category, nothing is listed in the drop-down list.  I tried the detection tool (figuring maybe I am typing something wrong) and the detection tool does not indicate the S/N ir the SNID - both fields are blank .
Any help would be appreciated.
