Acer mod. ax1430-vd30p; running win 10. 4gb mem. : I'm having a problem getting info, even from the mfgr. Does this mod. have a space for another 4gigs? I'm not a genius; how do I do it, or should I just get a new computer?

The X1430 supports up to 16GB of memory using the two slots. If you have two sticks in there now you'll want to replace both with larger, if you have just one stick you can drop a second 4GB in for 8GB or replace the existing with two 8GB for 16GB total.

Your computer is a fairly old one, it came with Windows 7 so the release date is 2012 or older. You might find a new computer within your budget and you'll likely be happier with a new one. Check out the Acer recertified models if you have a tight budget...

The x1430 has a maximum capacity in ram memory of 8 gb, I recommend that you set that ram cap, optimize the operating system (windows 10 as possible), and if you want to get the most out of this pc, I recommend giving it a low profile graphics card (low profile).

There is a conflict between the two responding posts.  One says it will use up to 16 gigs of ram....2-8 gig sticks and the other says max of 8...2 - 4 gig sticks.  Everything I read about this unit says that it maxes at 8 gigs.  I suggest the fellow that said 16 go to settings about if he has one of these.  Unless there has been a bios update increasing capacity, he will find that his computer will say 8 gigs even with two 8 gig sticks.  lol.  To the fellow having problems with the PC running slow.....yes....doubling the ram to 8 gigs will help.  But you probably are covered up with tracking cookies.  Be sure to clear those cookies on a regular bases.. as well as the history.....It can make a whale of a difference. And doing that regularly as maintenance will help to keep the pc running as it should.   In addition to that, you might look at how much disk space you have.  Many times a near full hard drive can create an issue as well.

If your PC is slow, the best thing to do is change your spinning hard disk to a 2.5" solid state drive(SSD) with the capacity that you like.
Solid state drive is at least 2-3 times faster than old spinning hard disk. You will notice the difference right away. Even if you replace your PC years down the road, you still can take out the SSD and apply it to your new PC.

I suppose your PC still has another empty slot for memory stick. I would suggest take out the existing memory stick and write down info from the label there and get another one of the same spec so you will have total 8 GB memory. Since your PC is pretty old, sooner or later you may have to buy a new one and this added 4 GB stick most likely cannot be used in your future PC. The performance increase with added memory just cannot match the performance increase by booting from 2.5" SSD.

Once you get your 2.5" SSD , post another question here or read and learn how to make your SSD your boot drive from this Acer Community.

If I were you, I would worry about replacing HDD to SSD first, instead of worrying about increasing memory ( unless you are sure your daily PC usage did hit the 4GB memory limit of your PC's current configuration by observing the memory tab of the Resource Monitor under Windows 10).

Yes switching to an SSD will help any pc running on a mechanical hard drive.  But is it really worth the time and money on a micro computer that is near the end of its lifespan and worth less than the SSD you would be buying?  I suggest getting an exterior drive and move any excess data over to it.  Clearing hard drive space will help most computers.  I would also suggest what I have mentioned in my previous post.  Clearing the cookies will generally help any PC., be it a cell phone or a desktop.  Clear those cookies...check your available hard drive space.  If it less than 25%....get an exterior hard drive and move some of that stuff over to it then delete it on your pc.  You'll be amazed.  And yes...doubling the ram to 8 gigs will definitely help.

As far as your initial question.  First, purchase the proper ram.  It takes PC3-10600 8GB DIMM 1333 MHz DDR3. unbuffered.   I'd get two matching 4 gig sticks from the same manufacturer.  Then you completely disconnect your pc from all wiring...lay it on its side.  There are two screws holding the case side to the frame.  slide it off.  Put on some gloves to avoid static.  The ram in your computer will be sticking up right in front of you.  Usually there are two clips holding the ends down.  Pop those loose and it will pull out.  Be sure to take note of the slot in the bottom of the ram when you take it out.  install the new ram exactly as it came out.  push in the middle.  don't force it...it does take some pressure...but too much if its not aligned properly as per the slot can damage the ram or board.  While you have the case open....It might be a good time to take a bottle of compressed air and blow out any dust that has collected inside...especially on the fan.  put the case back together and power it up...your done.
