Why you shouldn't check for updates... #SharingisCaring

Well, I'm the kinda guy who loves new software updates on their system and checks for new updates every often than most people. But recently, if you haven't heard, an update from Windows that rolled out recently gained the attention of the media because the update started randomly deleting files on people's computers, automatically. When asked Microsoft regarding this issue, one of their reps said that the issue is being fixed and that the problem had happened only to people who installed updates manually, by clicking for the "Check for updates" button. Microsoft said that when people clicked the button, they are actually requesting for any, potentially buggy, beta or preview version of some particular update, that is being developed and/or has not been rolled out to all Windows users.
So, what I wanna say is that, when you get a new computer or if you already own a Windows machine, you might be better off without checking for updates manually. Any and all updates that are actually important and is required by the system will be installed automatically, unless you lead a dangerous lifestyle and wanna kick things up a notch.  ;)

Good Day! <3

I've read an article of that. It is pretty bad forcing users to become beta testers without an option to disable it when looking for updates.
Always post the following characterisitcs of the device:
    -Model number
    -Part number(not required, but helpful)
    -CPU
    -GPU
    -Operating system

Helios 300 and Nitro 5 users DO NOT update the BIOS to version 1.22 if you don't want the keyboard's backlight to turn off after 30 seconds even when the device is plugged in.

It's utterly dumb that Microsoft spend the last 20+ years drilling into our heads that we should regularly check for Windows updates, and now doing this is biting us in the butt.

I'm used to checking manually, and I was lucky that I didn't run into any problems. I still reinstalled Windows from scratch after I read about this nonsense, just to be safe, and haven't checked for updates manually ever since. Of course this has now the annoying side effect that Windows will tell me it wants to restart due to some update at the most inconvenient times.

    Reasons to:
    set all connections to metered
    edit hosts file
using spybot anti telemetry or similar
read askwoody before any suspicious update

I plan to buy a license for w10pro, for a little more control over "This PC" (it isn't "my computer" anymore, MS is clean and fair here), and keep it just for compatibility sake with a linux install, just deciding between ubuntu or mint.
