So i have an Aspire e1-431 and it simply won't turn on. When i press the power button the laptop tuns on but it doesn't boot, the power led is always on but the hard drive led flashes about twice per second, even with no hard drive connected. I tested the hard drive separately and it works fine. While the led flashes there is no hard drive activity at all. (i'm using a hdd and i can only hear the platters spinninvg but i can't hear the heads moving) The LCD display doesn't turn on, either. When i press the F2 key to enter the bios setup the flashing stops, like if i had just entered the BIOS setup.  The user manual is of no help either as the error codes only show up in legacy BIOSes, not UEFI BIOSes like mine. Unplugging the lcd display has no effect. I tried cleaning the ram stick and slot contacts with rubbing alcohol as it has worked for me before and i don't have access to isopropyl alcohol. I haven't yet tried to replace the ram stick for one that has the same specs, i tried with a DDR3L stick and the laptop immediately shuts off as soon as i turn it on. (My laptop uses DDR3) I am using the AC Battery with no battery attached. I have already tried reseating the ram and cpu (my cpu is in a socket) and they have had no effect.

Have you tried to HDMI out to a TV to get a screen? Jack E/NJ

OK, try this. Put the HDD back in. Turn the machine on and immediately start tapping the F2 key as if to enter the BIOS menu. Monitor when the HDD LED stops blinking. Then press the F9 key to blindly try to load BIOS default settings. Then press F10 to blindly save settings. Then press the enter to blindly exit the BIOS menu. If still no lid or TV screen after a few seconds, try pressing the FN+F5 and FN+F6 toggle key combos to try to turn them on. Jack E/NJ
