Aspire E 14 E5-476G-52N9 throttling in games

Hi,

I am experiencing severe throttling issues with my laptop. Spec is i5-8250u and MX150. I cannot play any modern game that I have tried beyond 5 minutes(Dota 2, GTA V, Madden 19). I can play them well for about 5 minutes before throttling kicks in and I am unable to play. Tried GTA V with the lowest possible settings and still throttling and it's not some minor FPS drops from time to time, the game basically stops for about 5 seconds, stutters for 3 seconds, then stops again. It's unplayable.

I have tried every possible solution that I have seen except taking apart the laptop as it will void the warranty if I do so. Undervolting, cooling pad, elevated laptop for better airflow, latest drivers. I am getting around 75-85 degrees when playing.

Is there anything I can do? I badly want to have this laptop refunded as it's been really disappointing but I don't think I can do that. Is there anything else I can do to have this remedied?

As delivered from the factory, It should not be throttling at these temps. They are entirely normal temps under load. Don't undervolt.
    (1) Is Control Panel power plan set to high performance rather than balanced or power saver?
    (2) Is the laptop plugged in with nearly 100% battery charge BEFORE starting to play under these heavy loads?
    (3) Is your power supply rated at 45 or 65 watts?
    (4) Other than Win10updates, have you made any other software or firmware changes from factory delivered?

Hi, thank you for the reply.

    1. I am using a high performance power plan while doing these tasks.

    2. Yes, laptop is plugged in with nearly 100% battery charge.

    3. Power supply is rated at 65W

    4. No other software and firmware changes introduced aside from the games themselves and Throttlestop for undervolting purposes. This is a relatively new laptop.

    (1) Uninstall, don't just disable, any non-Microsoft antivirus apps like McAfee, Norton, AVG, etc.
    (2) Open Control Panel. Search 'button'. Click 'change what power buttons do' in left pane. Click 'change settings that aren't available' Scroll down the list and uncheck fast startup to disable fast boot.
    (3) Shutdown. Check the bottom of the laptop for a battery disconnect pinhole with a battery symbol. If it exists, unplug charger and gently insert paper clip into hole for about 30 seconds. Let machine set for about 15mins.

Then plug the charger back in and turn it on. If this doesn't fix the issue, then I suggest trying the ALT+F10 cold boot reset as shown in the video below to rule in or rule out a hardware issue, preferrably disconnected from the internet to prevent any Win10updates from complicating the analysis.
