Hi guys, I will be getting my new Helios 500 tomorrow, and I've heard some complaints about Windows updates that can disrupt the graphics card driver and the sysyem in general. Some people recommended to disable automatic updates at the very beginning.. I've seen discussions regarding bios updates, and I'm a bit confused if I will have a good start with the device or I will maybe mess up couple of stuff..
Please advise me! :) Also, do you have, like, a must have list of programs to install upon I get my hands on it?
Thanks!

BIOS - prefer to wait a month after release and then updating.
Windows - personal preference, but disable windows update from updating drivers.

There is a pinned post on how to optimize and how to do it.

In short, here is what I did:
    1. Disable superfetch (I think they changed its name now, i don't have the 1809 update yet, so do not know its name right on top of my head)
    2. Disable windows search
    3. Disable/remove cortana completely (this is pretty much unless you don't value privacy much, or you do not use it)
    4. You can remove all windows store apps, keeping only those you need. Personally, I even removed store. Only downfall would be apps like calculator, but I could find a windows 7 calculator and installed it.
    5. Check for an app like Tuneup Utilities and disable programs you don't use frequently. Once set up, they are enabled and disabled automatically as you open and close them.
    6. I would say stop using Predator Sense. This uses significant CPU and CPU cycles to display that graph. I use TS for CPU and MSI Afterburner for GPU undervolting (links in my signature). Suspend graph plotting once you are comfortable with your setup to save on those few cycles too.
    7. Personally, I disabled all telemetry services too; these may look small but these do work in background collecting information, and i'd like my system totally idle. This also includes disabling the nvidia telemetry services.

You can follow the links in my signature on how to further fine tune your system.
