Overheating with Predator 17

sauntsaunt Posts: 6Member New User
Hi all, I have a predator 17 and I have made use of some of the tips on  the other threads (excluding redoing the thermal paste) to reduce my temperatures somewhat (they spike even on relatively old games). Having done that, I noticed on throttlestop that there was a significantly different temperature between cores. Is that a symptom that something is broken and needs to be fixed by Acer?

Try setting fans on auto and cool boost on.
On the FIVR page, set CPU and CPU cache to -0.125. And CPU Cache and System Agent to 0.06.

Check that out and let me know.

Those settings render my system unstable i'm afraid, not sure why mine cannot go to that level.

Yep, those settings rendered the system so unstable I was not even able to open up throttlestop with nothing else running without the entire system crashing. Had to delete the settings file.

I'm not even sure the undervolting that does work even makes a difference, at least I mean, the 3 and 4th cores still seem to be 10C higher than the others.

I also recently noticed, even when lowering settings and keeping CPU usage low, when playing games, my temperatures shoot up. Not sure why. Anyone have any ideas?

One more try... try using MSI Afterburner... bring up voltage-frequency graph using Ctrl-F and try undervolting GPU and see if that helps.

Also try increasing your laptop height using feltpads under feet. And maybe an externally powered USB fan directory to the north of Fn keys... these too help reduce temps.
