The audio/speakers on my Acer Aspire Z3-715 are not working properly. The only sound coming from the machine is a popping/crackling sound. This popping sound happens even there should be no audio playing. I don't care about getting the proper audio to play again. I just desperately want the popping/crackling to stop. I have tried uninstalling the sound driver (Realtech something), but that didn't work. Any thoughts on how to completely mute all sound coming from the machine is much appreicated.

    Hi Loondogiv,
Its best not to play  with the hardware directly to remove sound from laptop, you can always disable the sound driver via Control Panel > Device Manager > Devices > Sound (right click, Disable).
But I will recommend you to just do power drain and BIOS defaults if that can take care of the issue rather than disabling sound.
     Follow the steps.
For this take out the charger if connected and press and hold the power button till all lights are off.
Have a look at the bottom of the laptop. Search for a tiny pin hole with a battery symbol by the side of it. If you see the pin hole, take a paper clip and press and hold it down for 30 seconds.
If you do not see the pin hole, then simply press and hold the power button for 30 seconds and let go.
Do try  performing BIOS default now.
    Steps to follow.
    1) Press and hold power button to make sure all lights are off.
2)Now press power button just ones and keep tapping F2 (tap,tap)about 10-15 times till the bios screen doesnt load up.
    3) Ones in BIOS, Press F9 one time and hit enter.
    4) Press F10 one time and hit enter.
    This will restart your computer

Check if sound is working fine.
    Hope this resolves your issue

Thank you, the power drain suggestion above worked for the same problem on my Aspire S3 (i.e. speaker crackling / popping when there was no other audio playing). I did not need to reset the bios.
