have reloaded network drivers with three different  versions with no improvement. Have applied other changes to power settings and so many i cant even remember.
All other wireless devices in home are not dropping out.
If I close cover and reopen, it starts back up without fail.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Its the atheros QCA61x4A adapter

    Hi Carguy,
Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall the network drivers.
Press windows logo key + X(on keyboard)
Click on  Device manager from left hand panel.
Click on arrow by the side of Network adaptors.
Right click on the network driver and click uninstall driver(Please make sure to un check delete driver if that is checked as we are not deleting driver) .
    Restart computer .

Also I will recommend you to perform a BIOS default.
    Shut down computer.
Keep tapping F2 about 10 -15 times as you press the power button to turn on computer again.
Ones in BIOS, press F9 one time and hit enter.
Then press F10 one time and hit enter.
    This will restart computer.
Check after that how internet is working.
Please let me know if this fixed your issue.

Also bring up properties on the adapter and verify it's not set to turn off to save power.

    thanks for both responses-
Kamalika-performed both recommendations and will let you know as the problem sometimes took a few hours of computer use to show up.

billsey- had already unchecked the power save option
