What is the full model number of your laptop?
Before upgrading create a USB recovery recovery media for the windows os shipped with your laptop.
Also, check if your model is compatible windows with windows 10 update.

You can add a 32GB or 64GB SD or microSD card  more storage. You can create an icon for the card and keep it on the desktop for quick access. If you have large collections of photos, music, movies etc then you can store them on SD cards. Further, you can now install programs on SD cards, too.

    >>You can manually try to update using the Upgrade Assistant tool.
Head to the Windows 10 Download page. Click on the “Update now” button to download the Upgrade Assistant tool. From the download page, click “Update Now” to use the Update Assistant to walk you through the upgrade. The second option is for creating install media on a drive or disc. The Update Assistant will walk you through the upgrade process but keep in mind it will take some time and your system will restart several times.
