HDMI through USB-C port replicator?

Hi, all.  I have an Aspire 5 (A515-51G-53V6) and seem to be running into an issue getting a port replicator (brand is Totu) to work with it with regards to the HDMI port.  I've tried this and another USB-C-connected port replicator (brand is Vava) on two other laptops and everything works fine.  Connect those same port replicators to this laptop and HDMI does not get recognized.  USB ports work and the ethernet ports work, but the monitors do not recognize any signal.  I just spoke with tech support and, after trying some basics, they gave up and said they wouldn't support this case because it involves 3rd party hardware.  The laptop is brand new.  The Acer drivers, firmware, and BIOS are up to date. Windows updates are up to date.  Diagnostics find nothing wrong.  Does anyone here have any other suggestions to try?  Many thanks for any help!

If the two other laptops have USB-C 3.1 gen2 ports, then the replicator probably needs this type of port and thus won't work in the A515-51G with a USB-C 3.1 gen1 port. Gen1 is virtually the same as a regular USB3 A port except for the physical C form factor. Jack E/NJ
