I'm having issues with many of the batteries on these devices not showing up or battery not holding any charge. I've had C720 and C740 and the batteries are still great. The C731 I'm replacing batteries in them daily. Any suggestions or anyone else seeing this?

This is not an hardware issue, A recent Chrome OS software update is causing some Chromebook models to incorrectly display the battery charge status. The battery should be still functioning at full capacity, and usage time should not be impacted.
Check this updated (03/19/2018) link and see whether it helps :  https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/51932

To diagnose the issue, reset your Chromebook to its original factory state from the sign-in screen by pressing Shift + Ctrl + Alt + R and clicking Restart.
Then fully charge the Chromebook and check the issue.
If the issue persist, please open a CROSH shell, by typing Ctrl Alt t, and then type battery_test. After the test is done, type Exit. It will tell you what it says about battery health.

If the Powerwash does not fix the problem & you are not comfortable going into Developer Mode to use the command line; then reinstall Chrome OS.  Developer Mode was designed intentionally to keep the casual user out & from mucking up the file system.
