hello friends!! so i have an Acer Aspire V5-591G-58Z3 with windows 10 and Sony STH30 earbuds that I both love. However- I've been having some issues with my microphone recently- I like gaming with my friends, and when we're in skype I have a lot of crackling background noise, and when we're in discord I usually cut out every few words so everyone can only hear half of what I'm saying which is super frustrating-

so I went to look in my sound settings, and realised that my laptop doesn't actually recognize my headphone's microphone. i plug it in into the 1 audio jack, there aren't two different ones for mic/audio. I already knew that the little remote thing where you adjust the sound on your heaphones doesn't work, but I thought the microphone did. and it does- if I record myself on my phone, and then plug in my headphones and record myself again, it sounds different, so I do know the microphone works- but I just can't get my laptop to recognize it. I went into HD audio manager and clicked the thing where it shows a popup when you connect a new device, and I tried headset, microphone, inline, but it never recognizes it. the ''recording'' tab in the ''sounds'' setting that you get when your right click the volume button on the task bar only shows ''microphone, realtek high definition audio'' which is the inbuilt microphone in the laptop, which apparently isn't that great. - i've tried plugging in my apple headphones as well but it doesn't recognize the microphone in that either. is it just not an option?

how do i get my laptop to recognize the microphone? thanks for your time!

    okay so for anyone reading with the same problem; the 30th or so forum i checked came with the fix;

    ''Go into
    -> control panel
    -> device manager (must be an administrator)
    -> sound, video and game controllers
    - Right click on your audio device
    - choose "disable"
    - wait a moment and right click, choose "enable" ''

    Ok, so i had this problem for a good amount of time where my Razer Kraken x mic was not registering on my Acer Aspire 5 slim 15" laptop. for week this went on and i got really frustrated that i almost gave up. i tried what you said but it wasn't helping and then my headset developed an echoing issue but my mic was still not working. I had a usbc to headphone jack from my phone. i plugged my headset into it and it immediately recognized my headphones and my microphone. it got rid of the echoing and my computer could recognize my mic. Problem solved hope this helps.

    I also had this problem, and to solve it, you just need to get back the pop-up log which allows you to choose between headphone, headset, microphone, ....
    To solve it you need to
    -Open Control panel
    -Press on Hardware and sound
    -Open HD Audio Manager
    -Press on the folder icon in the right upper corner and tick in to allow pup-up log.

    After that, you choose whatever device you have.

    Oh wow! Thank you sooooo much! I tried so many things but this is what finally worked!
    I had no idea we needed to use their 3rd party software to configure our mics. I couldn't find a way to do it from Windows.
    Thank you so much for posting this. I've been looking for ages!

    Thank you so much. I couldn't find the answer for YEARS until the Google algorithm gods blessed me with this post. Why is this option hidden and why is the software too stupid to think the headset is a just audio????

    Hi, I don't have "HD Audio Manager" on my laptop. Is there any solution for this?
