It just appeared this morning. I never touch the screen and good care is always taken. It's hard to notice on my phone camera, it's not a completely straight line, it's jagged like a lightning bolt. It looks to completely disappear under a black background, but more visible under lighter backgrounds. should i worry about this? i hope it doesn't grow.

Laptop model is Acer Predator Helios 300 g3 571

    Hi eminem2ka9,
Mostly this horizontal lines may be caused by outdated drivers.

Try these steps to see if this fixes the issue.

    1) Update Graphics Card Driver for Windows 10

You could try the easiest method to adopt a professional driver download and update utility tool, such as Driver Talent, well-known as the safest and fastest way to update drivers, which could find out your outdated graphics card driver in seconds and then automatically download and install the most updated version in 2 minute.

You could one-click “Update” to update your graphics card driver to the latest version.

update graphics card driver for windows 10

     Reboot Your PC

Perform a reboot of your PC to make the graphics card driver update come into effect.

     2) Change Screen Resolution Settings to Fix Laptop Screen/Computer Screen

Incorrect screen resolution settings may also result in the horizontal or vertical lines on the computer screen in Windows 10. To get rid of the horizontal or vertical lines across your display, you need to adjust the screen resolution settings. Follow these steps:

Step 1. Go to your desktop screen and right-click on the empty place

    Step 2. Click Display Settings

Step 3. The Settings window will open. Select Advanced Display Settings at the bottom of the screen

Step 4. A lot of screen resolutions will be available to you. Set the resolution drop-down menu to the setting that has the (Recommended) text next to it and click OK

    3) Disconnect and Reconnect the Video Cable

If you notice horizontal or vertical lines on the computer screen in Windows 10, it may be related to the incorrect video cable connection. You could also try to reconnect the video cable to the screen and then check whether the horizontal or vertical lines are gone.

Please try these steps and let me know if the issue is resolved.

If i take a 'prntscr' i can't see it, so i don't think it's a driver issue. i'll likely have to do a screen replacement in the near feature, just hoping it doesn't get worse. so i don't think i'll be able to tamper with the video cable for now!

also i just wanted to mention that when i say i can't see it with a prnt screen, i mean after i take the photo it is not there. but when i press the prnt scr button and i am prompted to select the dimensions of the screen i want to capture, yes its still there. it is always there, just much less visible under dark backgrounds. i went searching and i couldn't find any similar small white zig zag line which someone may have experienced. it's not your typical line all the way down the screen, i would compare it to a cut on your finger.
