I just bought this laptop off of eBay, I've tried taking the battery out and pressing the power button for the recommended time, but to no avail. Not sure how long this has been going on, just hoping that someone can help me out here with what MIGHT be wrong. Thanks!

If you have a handheld digital multimeter which are usually available nowadays for less than $10 USD , first check the voltage between the inner & outer connectors on the charger plug. It should be about 19volts. If not the charger is probably bad. Jack E/NJ

    Hi @st8d,

Is the charger working. can you see the light on the unit when you plug in the charger. check if the charger is warm, try changing the sockets. if its still having the same issue then contact the acer since the unit is under the warranty. Check the link below for acer contact.

When you say "charger plug", you're referring to the DC Jack, right? Meaning where I plug the charger into the laptop and not the battery's location

Yes. @st8d But not the jack itself on the computer. The plug on the charger that goes into the computer jack.

The unit is no longer under warranty @christy1 Jack E/NJ

I don't have the charger that came from the original product. I have a charger that fits the plug. I bought this item off of eBay after the person who sold it to me said it didn't charge. I was just trying to figure out if it's the battery or the laptop itself.

How do you go about checking the charger? The label on the charger says it outputs 12V.

As mentioned earlier, a cheap digital multimeter to check the voltage between the inner & outer connectors of the charger's plug. For this this charger, the output should be about 19v.  However, it is very likely the battery needs replacement as well. Both a brand new replacement charger and battery for this particular laptop are very inexpensive --- less than $30 for both. Simply google "d257" + "charger"  or + "battery" with the quotes for vendors. Jack E/NJ

I ordered a charger already and if that doesn't work, I'll order a battery. Thanks so far!

The new charger worked! I bought two of the same laptops for "AS IS" and both just needed a charger! No new batteries here! Thanks!
