Hello!

I just started having an issue where the right side of the screen will go dim when moving the lid of applying light pressure to the display. This has never happened before and I'm not sure what the cause of this would be. Is there a loose connection or could this be a dying screen? The device was manufactured on May 25th 2016.

Here's a video (not by me) that shows my issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnaSckEHxeY

Thanks in advance! :)

It may be a loose connection between the screen & the motherboard or the backlight is failing. Hopefully it is a loose connection & not a failing screen. If you purchased the device in late 2017, it may still be under warranty.  Have your SNID ready & check at the Warranty Status website. If your device is not longer under warranty, you can try to repair it yourself. The video below, which shows you how to check the connection or replace the screen, is specifically for the CB5-311.  If it's not your model, search for the correct video in the YouTube search bar.

It will also happen when the hinges get sticky as they age or get gunked up. The added stiffness means you are flexing the display when you put pressure on the corner. Best bet is to use two hands to changes screen position. In extreme cases it might be possible to crack the glass if you put too much pressure on the corner.

This is true, people tend to use one hand and force the screen open and close with little thought.

I always advise people to use BOTH hands and open, close or adjust the screen with a bit more care, it will help reduce the potential for problems later.  This is more relevant today as we demand machines are made thinner and bezels are reduced in size, years ago those big chunky bezels added a lot more structural strength and prevented flexing of the screen and internal strains.

    Thanks everyone for your replies!

I had checked the warranty already and it looks like the device is no longer covered. I'll see if I can get the issue fixed myself. All I need is for this device to last 2 more years. I'll post back if I find a solution and/or get it fixed myself. :)

    Thank you!
