I am thinking of getting an Acer laptop. I don't know which to get so I need some advice. My budget is below 1k. What's the best acer laptop for computing students using ubuntu?
And also If any one can advice about the difference between:
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/model/NX.GTCAA.006
And
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/model/NX.GTCAA.012
The prices differ but specifications seem to be exactly the same!

The only difference that I can see is that the 53MR has a SDXC reader.

The best laptop is the least expensive & with the most features.  Ebay has Aspire 5 A515-51's for about 512 to 660 loonies with free international shipping & free returns, if your heart is not set on the 51g-5718/51g-53MR.  I was unable to refine the search with cheapest first.  There are often cheaper deals when you scroll down to the bottom of each offering.  You will have to look at the specifications for the other models.

Another thing to consider is single boot or dual boot.  Technically it's easier to do the latter.  There are some real advantages to Windows.
Probably tax preparation is not a concern at this stage in life, but it's not possible to run TurboTax, desktop edition, in Ubuntu.  Virtualization is not reliable.  If your printer is not on Ubuntu's supported list, it's a real bear to install the Linux drivers; not to mention being unable to get the printer to run via a wireless connection.
