RAM upgrade

Hello!
I tried to upgrade the RAM of my Aspire V5-573G. I noticed that it had 4GB onboard and I had an extra 4 GB module. I switched the module for a Kingston 8 GB PC3-12800. After reboot I only had 4GB in total. Using tools like Sandra or CPU-Z show two banks, bank 0 is apparently the soldered one, it says 4GB. The other module shows as well, it is the Kingston 8GB module. How is it possible that tools identify both modules but at the same time Windows (10) reports only 4GB? I read somewhere that it should be a 1,35V module instead of 1,5V. The configurator of the webshop showed both modules as suitable.

What happens is that your model seems to support the ddr3L memory of 1.35v:

However ddr3l memory supports both 1.35v and 1.5v and so some models are also compatible with ddr3 memory that has a voltage of 1.5v!
But in your case, I think the motherboard, while supporting a ddr3L (which supports 1.35 and 1.5v), only accepts the 1.35v voltage!

Crucial.com has a scanner to determine automatically the compatibility with your device.  They are a reputable company.  It's not necessary to buy anything from them to use their scanner.

I  saw specifications that up to 12 gb of RAM can be installed. In one sense, it matters little what Sandra "says"; if the 1.5v stick does not show up in either the Device Manager or  UEFI settings. Hopefully your vendor will exchange the 1.5v for the 1.35v without extra cost or fuss.

Well, there seem to be many different V5-573 laptops. On the internet it's not clear if it should be DDR3 or DDR3L.
I checked the BIOS, it reports only 4GB. When I checked the system with Sandra (don't have AIDA64) something strange happens. It shows the total amount of memory 4GB but it also shows the correct new Kingston 8GB module. So, it is there but it doesn't count...

Thanks! I used the Crucial scanner and there were 5 compatible memory sticks, all of them DDR3L. I think that makes it clear. My vendor showed two compatible 8 GB sticks, de DDR3 Kingston and the DDR3L Crucial. I think I'll make a switch. Shouldn't be a problem...

I downloaded AIDA64 and made a screenshot. Both memory modules show up. Strange? Both DDR3... And Crucial.com advises DDR3L.

Its an old topic but still relevant for me, because in 2020 I finally want to upgrade my old aspire;)
Does anyone upgraded the v5-573g successfully to 12GB and can recommend a ram-module?
And what about the thing you sometimes hear that ram-modules of different sizes (here 4 + 8GB) slow down the system? Did this occur to you?
