i brought an acer predator helios 300, 2 weeks back. While playing nfs payback my cpu heated upto 97 when fans were at auto and gpu was pretty cool around 78. When at max it is around 90. I have seen replies to see the link https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/535036/frequent-questions-and-answers-information-guide-update-it-on-1-19-2018/p1. I wasnt satified with it. The heating of the cpu more than the gpu, is it a problem.!!???

What's your CPU idle % when no programs are running?

You can try the following threads on how to reduce temps since you aren't satisfied with the pinned one.

48 when idle and and fans at auto.
When at max while gaming its is between 80 and 90. I am afraid that undervolting my cpu may decrease its performance..

Undervolting may only increase your performance. Since it will reduce your temperatures and will require lower power, you CPU will be able to reach its full potential, without throttling.
Give it a try. BTW what is your CPU?

My cpu is i5 8300h. And today it has reached 96 when i was playing..
it makes me depressed. A gaming laptop just to find that it has bad heating problems... i will try undervolting it sir. Can i pls suggest me on how i can undervolt. When i read on how to undervolt it was given that we had to be extra careful. Is it tough to undervolt??

If your CPU is idling at 48% with nothing running then that's the issue.

My CPU idles at 0-1% with no programs open.
Having your CPU running so many background tasks is what's causing the increased temps.

Check your task manager and uninstall bloat/programs that are running in the background.
If it's programs you dont want to uninstall then follow this video and apply its methods to all those programs youve installed yourself..
Example: Removing task schedules and services that run updaters etc in the background when you startup.

I am talking abt the temp as 48.
the temp reached when gaming is 97
when idle my cpu is 1-2%.the temp reached while gaming reaches 85-95degrees celcius

    Background processes have different effects.

For example a auto updater service for a specific program may not run all the time but will run periodically and it wont show CPU usage even though it effects temps.

Have you tried the videos above?

It'll still work a friend used xtu for his 8th gen i7 that wasn't listed with no issues. It still shows the values for a cpu that's not on the list.

i have undervolted my cpu by -0.100v and still the temp has reached 95 while playing nfs payback.
i have optimised my windows which actually incresed my battery life and nothing else..
pls suggest me any other solution....
btw what i think is the position of the fans is causing a problem. maybe the fans are situated away from the cpu. my model is acer predator helios 300 PH315-51. 16gigs of ram and 128 ssd

mine has 98 app's running in the background at the moment ( most of the times even more) and it's at cpu 54 (+-) gpu 44 i wouldn't worry too much about the 90 on payback the issue is the game itself it's really buggy it was a nightmare for me to get it going in the beginning crashing all the time but found  the issue and it uses more cpu that any other games i tried i also hit almost 90 on payback and i'm not even worried (they were made for this) in each day that goes by i love my i5 7300HQ even more :p if you are reaaly worried (again i wouldn't be) re-paste it with liquid metal and/or and try the solutions provided above by @Red-Sand :)

i've had a problem lately,, i accidentally dropped my laptop from the table.. and my cpu temps since then have been above 90 deg. even with low graphics, while playing some intense games like rainbow!! My fans are all working fine..

I have a Predator 15 and I used to get 85-90 CPU temps under load(games). I tried undervolting but then again idk why I had this instinct to change the thermal paste for both CPU and GPU. I bought the Arctic MX-4 and changed the thermal paste. My CPU temps on heavy load are MAX 80 degrees and GPU temps are lower than that (don't remember the exact number). If you can open up your laptop, I'd recommend changing the stock Thermal Paste.
